They include… New tools like WebSphere Portlet Factory and a new workflow builder, that allow business users to develop sophisticated composite portal applications without J2EE programming skills, or create composite workflow applications without knowledge of scripting languages like BPEL (See later slide for more WebSphere Portlet Factory benefits and capabilities). Enhanced Workplace Web Content Management, with support for in-place editing of content. Simply click on content in a portal page you have the rights to update and an editor is launched, without requiring the user to access said content through the Web Content Management tab/facility (see later slide for more Workplace Web Content Management benefits and capabilities). New Workplace Forms capabilities allow for the integration of electronic forms into portal content and applications, including sophisticated forms-enabled workflows (See later slide for more Workplace Forms benefits and capabilities). Enhanced User Experience, with new fly-out menus, new page navigation, drag & drop of portlets from the portlet pallete and to reconfigure your own portal page, enhance usability of tools like search, and integration with the native Microsoft Windows environment, including file browser support via Windows Explorer and support of Microsoft Office Editors (including older versions of Office, such as Office 97). Additional information and background: .Portal Application Templates. Allows business analysts to assemble and update composite applications to meet the needs of diverse users. Can be used to modify components of an application, set access rights based on users’ roles and manage workflow processes. .WebSphere Portlet Factory enables authorized "power users" to quickly modify portlets without involving IT staff. You can use WebSphere Portlet Factory to create powerful composite applications which can be rolled out as templates, enabling "power users" who have direct knowledge of changing business requirements to update the applications directly and as needed. .The new workflow builder is designed to help keep workflow tasks from getting lost in crowded in-boxes. The workflow builder allows business process owners to create and modify departmental workflows while drawing information from across the organization as part of self-service applications. Once a task is complete, the subsequent task is delivered to the appropriate person in the workflow. .WebSphere Portal’s integration with Workplace Forms enables users to view, fill in, sign, submit and route forms electronically. This tracks accountability, accelerates transactions and minimizes errors. .Improvements in the content authoring provided IBM Workplace Web Content Management in WebSphere Portal lowers the cost/resources needed to deploy and maintain portal sites. .New features help improve the effectiveness of IT managers and their staff., enabling them to be more responsive and deliver powerful capabilities described above with fewer resources. Improvements such as policy-based administration, flexible configuration, and industry leading performance help IT managers deliver a reliable portal experience that has been proven by some of the top global corporations. And just of Portlet Factory: With Version 6, IBM has expanded IBM WebSphere Portlet Factory with additional automated portlet development capabilities to further help customers achieve even faster time-to-value, more efficiently, for their WebSphere Portal applications - including the delivery of reusable business services for SOA-based portlets and applications. SOA Automation: New Data Services builders provide an entry point to SOA for organizations not yet embracing SOA, or to help further it in those organizations that are on an SOA path, by automating the creation, consumption and deployment of reusable back-end application services from existing applications and data. AJAX Support: New AJAX builders allow the portal developer to enhance the user experience by increasing portlet interactivity, speed, and richness. Portlets can execute independently of other portlets, thereby eliminating entire portal interface refreshes, and deliver rich client-like features like type-ahead capability to deliver a more sophisticated user experience in WebSphere Portal.
