Un jour, un saint homme demande à Dieu de lui montrer le paradis et l’enfer et Dieu accepte. Il l’emmène d’abord dans une pièce où des gens sont assis en rond autour d’une grande marmite pleine de nourriture. Ils sont pourtant maigres et tristes car ils ont chacun, attachée au bras, une cuillère dont le manche mesure un mètre, ce qui les empêche de pouvoir mettre la nourriture dans leur bouche. « Tu viens de voir l’enfer », dit Dieu. « Maintenant, allons voir le paradis. » Il emmène alors le saint homme dans une pièce où des gens sont assis en rond autour d’une marmite de nourriture, avec aussi une longue cuillère attachée au bras. Seulement, ici, ils sont tous bien portants, gais et dodus. « Mais… Je ne comprends pas.. » dit le saint homme, étonné. « C’est tout simple », dit Dieu. « Ici, ils ont appris à se nourrir les uns les autres. »

Isten kitárta ezt is és a látvány szinte ugyanaz volt, mint az előző szobában, pedig ez a Mennyország volt; a Paradicsom! Itt is épp úgy egy hatalmas asztalt találtak, zsúfolásig tele finom ételekkel és italokkal. Az emberek az asztal körül ugyanúgy hosszú nyelű kanalat tartottak a kezükben, de ez alkalommal mindenki jól táplált és mosolygós volt. Nevetve beszélgettek egymással. -Én ezt nem értem!- mondta a szent ember. -Ó, pedig ez egyszerű! - válaszolja Isten - ez igazából csak szándék kérdése. A különbség csupán a 2 fajta ember hozzáállásából adódik! A 2 helyen minden feltétel ugyanaz. A különbség csupán abból adódik, hogy melyik ember mit kezd az adott helyzettel. Ők Itt a Mennyországban megtanulták egymást etetni. Segítik egymást és örömmel teszik ezt.

The critical difference is in the way the people treat each other. He ran back to Hell to share this solution with the poor souls trapped there. I whispered in the ear of one starving man, "You do not have to go hungry. Use your spoon to feed your neighbor, and he will surely return the favor and feed you.""'You expect me to feed the detestable man sitting across the table?' said the man angrily.
