Az Országház építkezéshez feltételül szabták, hogy kizárólag hazai építőanyagokat használjanak fel. Az építkezés 1885-től 1904-ig tartott, azaz a tervező az épület teljes befejezését már nem érhette meg. Maga az épület 268 m hosszú, 123 m széles és 95 m magas, alapterülete négyzetméter. Központi eleme a kupola, amelynek két oldalán emelkedik a képviselőház (ma az országgyűlés) és a volt főrendiház (ma Kongresszusi terem) ülésterme. Az épületnek 27 kapuja van, belül 29 lépcsőház és 13 személy- és teherlift szolgálja a közlekedést és szállítást. Az épületben valamivel több mint 200 irodahelyiség található. A Duna felőli oldal a főhomlokzat, de a hivatalos főbejárat a Kossuth térről nyílik. Kívül és belül összesen 242 szobor van a falakon, jeles freskók és festmények is díszítik az Országházat. Budapest was united from three cities in 1873 and seven years later the National Assembly resolved to establish a new, representative Parliament Building, expressing the sovereignty of the nation. A competition was published, which was won by Imre Steindl, but the plans of the other two competitors were also realized, facing the Parliament: one serves today as the Ethnographical Museum, the other as the Ministry of Agriculture. Construction from the winning plan was started in 1885 and the building was inaugurated on the 1000th anniversary of the country in 1896, and completed in (The architect of the building went blind before its completion.) It is currently the largest building in Hungary, and the second largest Parliament in Europe. The Parliament building stipulating that only domestic construction materials are used. The building has 27 gates, 29 staircases and 13 personal and service elevators and shipping. The building is located slightly more than 200 offices. The main facade faces the Danube, but the official main entrance to the Kossuth Square. Inside and outside the walls have a total of 242 sculptures, paintings and decorated with excellent frescoes of the parliament.

Az építkezés során átlagosan ezer ember dolgozott, 40 millió téglát, félmillió díszkövet és 40 kg aranyat használtak fel. There were about one thousand people working on its construction in which 40 million bricks, half a million precious stones and 40 kg gold were used.
