As organization size increases the time of migration increases. For organizations around 25-to a few hundred users migrations should be doable over a weekend. For larger organizations in the order of it might take a few weeks, mainly to coordinate and stage the migrations. For large organizations it might take several months. As you observe as time of migration increases there is more of time window where a few mailboxes are in the cloud and a few on-premise. This is co-existence. As time for migration increases, there is more increasing need for the features of exchange to work in the co-existence topology. So as the time increases there is a need for richer co-existence support. There are also technology other factors which dictate the migration solution like the need for dirsync for the purposes of user management We have various migrations solutions which directly correspond to this 3 factors. SEM – over the weekend migrations, high fidelity moves, one shot migration SSEM – staged moves, enables mail flow but most of the exchange features will not function cross premise, dirsync dependency exists. Rich Migration –highest fidelity moves, a lot more co-existence features will work. However deployment is complex. 31 Kibővített Exchange együttélés Rich coexistence
Helyi Exchange szerver telepítése szükséges a kibővített együttéléshez. Exchange 2010 SP1 “gateway” server Exchange Server 2003 or 2007 Organizations interested in the smoothest migration experience, or organizations that want to have permanent coexistence, with a mix of some users on-premises, and others in the cloud, would choose rich Exchange coexistence.” In this scenario, an Exchange 2010 SP1 server is deployed on-premises, and acts as a gateway to the cloud (for redundancy purposes, larger organizations will typically deploy 2 servers). With the Exchange 2010 server in place, administrators can: Manage both their local Exchange forest, and their Exchange Online forest, from the Exchange Management Console Move users to the cloud using PowerShell or the Exchange Management Console Enable seamless calendaring, including free busy and full calendar sharing, between hosted and on-prem users Configure cross-premises mailflow so that all mail truly looks and feels like it is internal to the company. And, if desired, configure all inbound and outbound mail to flow through the local servers. Move mailboxes back on-premises if the need arises Although an Exchange Server 2010 server is deployed on-premises, there is no need to upgrade mailboxes to Exchange Server 2010 prior to moving them to the cloud. The Exchange Server 2010 server has the ability to act a proxy or bridge, between older Exchange Server 2003/2007 environments and Exchange Online, without the need to migrate on-premises Exchange mailboxes to Exchange Server 2010. Once an organization reaches 100% of mailboxes in the cloud, they would typically remove the Exchange Server server. The Directory Sync tool and ADFS server would remain in place so to connect on-premises AD infrastructure to the cloud to power SSO, easy provisioning, and a unified directory.
