Napjainkban csak ritkán használják a Szlavuticsból a csernobili atomerőműbe vezető utat, melyhez az is hozzájárul, hogy az ukrán városból Fehéroroszországon keresztül lehet eljutni a szintén ukrajnai atomerőműhöz. This is partly because one has to go through Belarus from the Ukrainian town to reach the likewise Ukrainian nuclear power plant.

A daruk is állnak még, talán arra várnak, hogy a rozsdásodás hatására egyszer csak összedőljenek... Abandoned. Unit 5 and 6 were under construction at the time of the accident. Following the accident the units and the construction site got abandoned, the units were never finished. The cranes are still set up; maybe waiting for the rust make them collapse sometime... 8 1/7. Személyi dozimetria. A magyar expedíció tagjai több személyi dózismérőt is viseltek az út során, hogy a lezárt zónában elszenvedett többletdózist pontosan mérni lehessen. A képen az űrdozimetriában is használt ún. TLD dózismérők kiolvasása látható. Personal dosimetry. Az igazi megoldást egy teljesen új szarkofág jelentené, melyet nemzetközi projektben terveznek felépíteni. The Sarcophagus. The Sarcophagus built around Unit 4 was destroyed in the accident. Ukrainian experts continuously work on the maintenance of the Sarcophagus. The real solution would be a new Sarcophagus which is planned to be built in the frame of international cooperation. 3/6. Atomkomplex a dokumentálók szemével. A magyar expedíciónak tagja volt egy kis TV stáb is, így minden fontos momentumot filmre vettek. A mintegy 12 órányi nyersanyagból dokumentumfilm készült. Az atomerőműtől mintegy 20 km-re dél-keletre fekvő település névtábláját kijavították a Szovjetunió szétesése, Ukrajna függetlenné válása után. Chernobyl – rewritten. Chernobyl - the “capital” of the exclusion zone, is still an inhabited town. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and after Ukraine became independent, the table of the town located about 20 km to the south-east of the NPP has been rewritten. Fotó: Dr. Aszódi Attila

25 3/8. Ebéd Csernobilban. A közfelfogás szerint ez lenne az expedíció legszürrealisztikusabb momentuma. Pedig Csernobil városában tiszta és ízletes ebédet fogyaszthattak el az expedíció tagjai. Lunch in Chernobyl. According to the common belief this would be the most surrealistic moment of the expedition. 26 4/1. Roncstelep. A baleset utáni mentési munkákban elszennyezett járművek egy részét eltemették, a kevésbé szennyezetteket a lezárt zóna roncstelepén ma is őrzik. Sajnos a járművek jelentős részét - a szennyezettségük és az őrzés ellenére - kifosztották. Junkyard. Some of the contaminated vehicles used in the rescue works were buried; the less contaminated vehicles are secured in the junkyard in the exclusion zone. A városban rengeteg a fiatal, akik bíznak a jövőben, és nem akarnak elköltözni a lezárt zóna külső határáról. Hátterében a baleset áldozatainak emlékműve. Ma is több ezren élnek ebben a fiatalos kisvárosban, akik az erőműben és környezetében dolgoznak. Ukrajna egyetemi várost kíván itt létesíteni. Circulation. The town of Slavutich was built after the disaster in 1986 for the emergency workers. Thousands live today in this youngish town, who work in and around the power plant. 34 5/1. Beöltözve. Mérés és mintavétel céljából a legszennyezettebb területen, a Vörös-erdő peremén is dolgozott a magyar expedíció. A védőöltözet a talajfelszínről esetlegesen felszálló, porhoz kötött szennyeződésektől védi a ruházatot és a bőrfelületet. A maszk a porok belégzését hivatott megelőzni. Dressed up. The expedition, for measuring and sampling, also worked within the most contaminated area, at the edge of Red Forest. 35 5/2. Színe és fonákja. A növényzet még ott is buja, ahol a baleset után óriási, életveszélyes dózisintenzitás uralkodott. Az ún. Vörös-erdő felé haladt a baleset utáni első kibocsátás csóvája áprilisának végén itt egy órányi séta elegendő lett volna a halálos dózishoz. Ma veszélyekre csak a táblák és a műszerek jelzései figyelmeztetnek. Front and back. The flora is lush even where huge, lethal dose-rates were prevailing after the accident. The first plum of the release proceeded towards the so-called Red Forest. Here, at the end of April 1986, only one hour walk might have been enough for the lethal exposure. During the work performed inside the Red Forest the location of samplings has been defined by global positioning system, the smaller “explorer” team reported the position and dose-rate data through walkie-talkie to the recorder working outside the contaminated area. 5/4. Katasztrófa szülte természetvédelmi terület. A lezárt zónában nagyon szép természetes környezettel találkozunk, az ember ugyanis ma alig háborgatja itt az élővilágot. A radioaktivitás a legtöbb helyen jól mérhető a környezetben, de a természet és az ember által tolerálható szinten van. The disaster generated nature reserve. The visitor encounters beautiful natural environment within the exclusion zone, since nowadays the mankind hardly does disturb the fauna here. 5/5. A szarkofág vonalában. A legérdekesebb és legszennyezettebb mintákat a szarkofágtól mintegy 2 km-re, az 1986-os első nagy kibocsátás fő tengelyében sikerült begyűjteni. Az expedíció által mért legnagyobb dózisintenzitás a hazai szokásos érték 500-szorosa volt. Ilyen helyen - korlátozott ideig ugyan, de - lehet dolgozni. In the line of the Sarcophagus. The most interesting and most contaminated samples have been collected about 2 km away from the Sarcophagus, in the main axis of the first large release in The highest dose-rate measured by the expedition was 500 times higher than the usual values in Hungary. 5/6. Kongassuk a csernobili harangokat?! A műszerek jelzésén kívül semmi különleges nem tapasztalható a lezárt zóna élővilágában. Az ember ritkán jár ezen a területen, a nagyléptékű mezőgazdasági tevékenység hiányában szépen növekszik az élővilág, ahogy ez a harangvirág is. Ring the bells of Chernobyl?! There is no indication of any specialty in the ecosystem of the exclusion zone apart from the signals of the instruments. Human rarely enters this area, for want of extensive agricultural activity the ecosystem is steadily growing like this bluebell. Fotó: Dr. Aszódi Attila

40 5/7. Ezen az erősebben szennyezett területen talaj-, iszap- és növénymintákat gyűjtöttek a szakemberek, amit folyamatosan dokumentáltak is. A szennyezett talajt itt friss földréteg fedi, amelyen a nagyobb dózisintenzitás ellenére teljesen normális növények találhatók. Nagyvadak friss nyomát is sikerült rögzíteni. The experts, with continuous documentation, have been collecting soil, mud and plant samples. Here the contaminated soil is also covered by fresh green layer, on which, in spite of the higher dose-rates, completely normal flora can be observed. Prints of big games have been detected as well. A magyar expedíció helyszíni tapasztalatai, valamint a nemzetközi felmérések szerint a lezárt zónában a radioaktivitás magasabb szintje ellenére az élővilágban nem tapasztalható rendellenesség. A kutatók az állatvilágban ezidáig nem találtak genetikai elváltozást. Ladybird has seven spots in Chernobyl as well. According to the on-scene experience of the Hungarian expedition and to the international surveys despite the higher level of radioactivity within the exclusion zone, abnormality cannot be observed in the flora and fauna. 6/1. Akkreditált terepi mérőhely. A lezárt zóna egy átlagosan szennyezett területén az ukrán hatóságok ún. akkreditált mérőhelyet jelöltek ki, ahol részletes mérési és mintaételi programot hajtott végre a magyar expedíció. A végzett mérések alkalmasak a nemzetközi összevetésre. Accredited measuring site. The Ukrainian authorities have designated a so-called accredited measuring site at an averagely contaminated area within the exclusion zone, where the Hungarian expedition implemented a detailed measurement and sampling program. 44 6/3. Te mit fogtál? A lezárt zónában több helyen rovar-, növény- és talajmintákat vett az expedíció, hogy azokat laborkörülmények között, nagy pontosságú műszerekkel mérhesse meg. What have you caught? The expedition has collected insect, plant and soil samples at more locations within the exclusion zone, so as to measure them under laboratory conditions, with precision instruments. 6/4. In-situ gamma spektrométer. A termetes hordozható detektor nagy pontosságú terepi méréseket tett lehetővé. A kapott adatok jól egyeznek az ukrán és nemzetközi kutatócsoportok mérési eredményeivel. In-situ gamma spectrometer. The sizable mobile detector has provided the possibility for precision in-situ measurements. A csernobili lezárt zónában és annak környékén végzett számos mérés szerint a dózisintenzitás átlaga a hazai szokásos érték duplája és ötszöröse között változik, ami nem tesz szükségessé különösebb óvintézkedést (egy 12 km magasan szálló repülőgépen a földfelszíni szokásos dózisintenzitás szorosa mérhető). Quick measurement. According to the measurements performed within the Chernobyl exclusion zone and in its surroundings the average dose-rate is changing between the twice and five times the usual value in Hungary, which does not make any special protective action necessary (10-20 times of ground dose rates may be observed on an airplane travelling at 12 km high ) Fotó: Dr. Aszódi Attila

47 6/6. Az expedíció tagjai talajmintát vesznek az akkreditált referencia mérőhelyen. A szlavuticsi Nemzetközi Csernobil Központ munkatársai többek közt itt is mérik rendszeresen a sugárzás összetételét és intenzitását. The members of the expedition are collecting soil sample at the accredited reference measuring site. 49 7/2. Spektrometria. Az ukrán és amerikai finanszírozásban felépített Nemzetközi Csernobil Központ korszerű méréstechnikáját a magyar szakemberek is használták. A mérések szerint a radioaktivitás a csernobili lezárt zónában ma kezelhető szinten van, de a zóna fenntartása még hosszú ideig indokolt lesz. Spectrometry. The Hungarian experts used the up-to-date measurement techniques of the International Chernobyl Centre built under Ukrainian and US financing. 50 7/3. 4x4. A begyűjtött minták mérése és kiértékelése még a szlavuticsi Nemzetközi Csernobil Központ laboratóriumában megkezdődött. 51 7/4. Ellenőrzés. A lezárt zónából visszatérő csoport napi utolsó ellenőrzése a buszról való leszálláskor történt. A cipőtalpak felületi szennyezettség mérése mindenkit „tisztának” minősített, a cipők is tovább használhatók maradtak. Control. Az ún. egésztest-számlálás során azt vizsgálták, nem került-e Csernobilban a résztvevők szervezetébe mérhető mennyiségű mesterséges radioaktivitás.
