Teljesítmény
Intel® Xeon® Processor 2S Performance Relative Performance Higher is better Performance gains represent a blend (GEO mean) of five common 2-socket workload types across a range of typical usages (see details) Intel® Xeon® 5500 Intel® Xeon® 5400 Relative Performance Intel® Xeon® 5300 Intel® Xeon® 5100 Single Core Dual Core Multi-core Slide objective: Because of constant advancements in server technology over time as we (Intel) pursue the promise and reality of Moore’s law. The key point to make is that older 2S servers installed in your infrastructure are consuming too much power, space and requires too much maintenance / patching. Gains across a range of industry standard workloads Up to 3.5x the bandwidth for technical computing Up to 2.25x performance for enterprise computing Compelling Performance Gains; Enables Unprecedented Opportunities For Business Source: Published/submitted/measured results March 30, 2009. Each bar represents the geo mean of published results on five industry standard benchmarks – SPECint_rate, SPECfp_rate, SPECjbb2005, TPC-C and SAP-SD. Performance tests and ratings are measured using specific computer systems and/or components and reflect the approximate performance of Intel products as measured by those tests. Any difference in system hardware or software design or configuration may affect actual performance. Virtualizáció
Intel® Xeon® 5500 sorozat: Az első teljesen virtualizált hardver platform Intel® VT-x Intel® VT For Directed I/O Intel® VT For Connectivity processzor lapkakészlet hálózat Intel platform virtualizációs technológiák There is no single silver bullet that can reduce the virtualization overheads, so enhancements are required across the platform to virtualization overheads. Having a holistic and a platform centric approach for hardware assists tuned for virtualization is fundamental to delivering the performance, scalability and flexibility required for today’s ever-changing datacenter usage models. Intel VT hardware assists delivers platform wide portfolio of capabilities to enhance virtualization, and the Intel Xeon® 5500 platform is the first volume server platform with end-to-end HW-assisted virtualization – CPU, chipset, and LAN controllers. Equally important is that EVERYTHING that Intel provides as a hardware assist to virtualization requires VMM support. To this end, we collaborate closely with VMM Software vendors to deliver Virtualization Solutions that deliver our innovations. We are not only delivering the HW, but we’re also making it real. Előnyök és megtérülés
Energiahatékony frissítés (Ugyanakkora teljesítmény) 2005 2009 184 egymagú 21 Intel® Xeon® 5500 alapú 8 hónap ROI 9X kevesebb kiszolgáló 90% kevesebb energia éves szinten Moving from 2005 to 2009 based servers IT can enjoy … Up to 9x performance per server (SPECjbb2005* 51,000 bops to 447,000) Combined with nearly 20% lower power per server (18% 382W to 315W) Means that server energy efficiency (perf/watt) is about 10x Meaning that for the same input power / cooling requirements (1MW example shown), IT can boost performance capability into the same data centers replacing 1:1 … that will boost performance by nearly 9x and because each server draws less power, allow IT to reduce annual energy costs. Stay competitive in the HPC space … this is capability you can’t afford not to have. NOTE: IF IT wants to fully utilize their power/cooling capability, and has the space to add servers to their existing data center they can allow their footprint to grow by 18% … adding 17 new racks and see performance of the data center (as a whole) increase to ~10x existing capability Source: Intel estimates as of Nov 2008. Frissítési előnyök 2005 18% becsült, éves energiaköltség megtakarítás 184 Intel® Xeon® egymagú kiszolgáló 2005 Teljesítmény frissítés Hatékony Max. 9x teljestmény 184 Intel® Xeon® 5500 alapú kiszolgáló 18% becsült, éves energiaköltség megtakarítás 21 Intel® Xeon® 5500 alapú kiszolgáló Max. 8 hónapos megtérülés 92% becsült, éves energiaköltség megtakarítás – VAGY – Let’s look at a common infrastructure of servers bought in 2005, where you might have 184 Intel Xeon single core servers that are operating workloads. We can see two paths that customers are on. One is that they may need to deploy more workloads and their current infrastructure simply doesn’t have the capacity. In this case, with the Xeon 5500 you could replace those 184 single core servers with new Xeon 5500 based servers and get up to 9 times the performance and still save nearly 18% of your energy cost. The other thing that customers can do if they don’t need to expand their workload, but rather focus on cost, is to replace those 184 single core servers with 21 Intel Xeon 5500 based servers. Their workload capacity stays the same, but the cost savings by deploying so fewer servers that consume much less power with fewer OS licensing costs, can generate a payback in as low as 8 months and create a 92% reduction in annual energy costs. In most cases we will see customers do a combination of both of these. They will replace the old servers to take advantage of the new energy efficiency but also build in headroom for new application deployment. In either case we know that new application deployment delivers a return and we know that consolidating older servers on to newer ones can get a return in as little as 8 months. Notes: Measures SPECjbb performance Includes both energy savings (power and cooling) and OS licensing costs per server See backup for more details of configurations Source: Intel estimates as of Nov 2008.
