In 1918, Lodwijks son Frans decided to use his knowledge of pigments to research into blueprint materials. The first steps in this market were the production of blueprint paper, popularly used in the 1920s to replicate line drawings. These were not the black and white copies common today: they produced blue paper with a white line drawing. Hence the name ‘blue print” and the start of Océ’s current activities. Three generations of the Van der Grinten family laid the basis for today’s Océ. With the flotation in 1958 shortly after the recruitment of Jan van Susante as the first non-family member in top management, the family character of the company faded. In the same year Océ took the first step towards massive international expansion when the first foreign establishment in Germany was opened. Now, in this new century, Océ is active in some hundred countries, with its own branches in thirty of these. It employs a total of 24,000 people who are jointly responsible for generating a turnover of about EUR 3 billion. Océ is an innovative technology company which ranks worldwide amongst the Top 50 IT companies. On a continuing base a considerable amount of money (7-8% of the annual revenue) is invested into ongoing innovation. This is also demonstrated by the amount of registered Océ patents which reflect the unique functionality in out machines. (Let’s take a short look to the overview of Océ’s activities and presence in the video that follows) To illustrate, please spend a couple of minutes with me to watch the Océ activities.

This is how we are organized to approach your world. We have four Strategic Business Units. The first is Document Printing. Here we are strengthening the competitive edge of companies by helping them better manage the production and distribution of documents. This streamlining ranges from office printing to central printroom environments The second Strategic Business Unit is Production Printing, which addresses the graphics arts industry and TransPromo documents, like bank statements and utility bills. The third Strategic Business Unit is Wide Format Printing Systems, which focuses on the world of architecture, engineering, construction and advertising communication. Technical Documentation Systems produce wide format blueprints and other documents for the people that build our world. Display Graphics Systems for the big, bold advertising all around us. And Imaging Supplies, which provides one of the widest ranges of media and inks and advice about what works best. Finally, our fourth Strategic Business Unit is Océ Business Services. It focuses on providing document management services for companies that want to outsource them. For the remainder of the presentation we will focus on the production cut sheet market in printroom or in-plant environments
